MathFights Tournament

A. What went well for Math Fights?
The tournament once they got started went as planned, time was not a problem and the number of problems were just right for surprise comebacks and impressive knockouts. The second day of tournaments went very smoothly, everyone joined the tournaments on time and we even had an "improptu cameraman" who was messing around, which put a little more fun into the tournament. Overall, everyone enjoyed it and most want a rematch next time!

B. What can be improved for next time?  Please list at least three things?
1. Organization and Planning: should be done more ahead of time, so we can get signups for a longer period of time and be able to have people join the tournament in a more sophisticated way and not the night before.
2. Making accounts for everyone: easier to manage, can do one-on-one brackets, place people in specific tournaments, don't need to rely on others to join the tournaments
3. Getting more people: obviously, this time didn't have as many people as I thought we would have, since promotion day was postponed, but hopefully next time there will be better promotion and an increase of the # of people

C. What personal lessons did you learn as a leader and event organizer?
I learned that organization is very key, and that everything you do has to be planned perfectly before and to save all information you get in an organized way, so you don't have to scramble to find out what is what. Also, making sure all the timing is right, asking teachers and other authorities beforehand and checking tournament dates and times if they are correct or not.

D. I want you to dream big. What is your long term goal for Math Fights? Maybe a district wide competition?
I really hope I am able to create a larger tournament (maybe 25 people) and be able to have the CEO come next time. But for the long term, I would probably want to move from only math honor society, to having tournaments for all people who are interested and maybe have different levels/divisions. Further from that, maybe get it to other schools possibly and see if they enjoy it as much as we did.
